Jayden Robinson came to the University of Ď㽶ĘÓƵAPP – Fort Smith already established as a leader among his Northside classmates. At UAFS, his leadership has blossomed to a degree he didn’t think was possible.
“Throughout my time at Northside, I held leadership roles such as vice president of my senior class, but I really think UAFS took it to the next level for me and has taught me how to be a better leader,” he said. “From being president of the Black Student Alliance to being both a counselor and chair for Cub Camp, I have become more confident in my leadership ability and believe I can lead in any and every environment I step foot into.”
As a first-generation college student, Jayden’s journey wasn’t without some challenges. But he credits the smaller size of UAFS and the people for finding his place over the last four years.
“UAFS is home away from home,” he said proudly. “UAFS is unique, fun, and rememberable. Throughout your time at UAFS, as long as you put yourself out there, you will have a great time and will never forget the memories and friendships you make.”
Jayden, a media communication major, is an example of getting out what is put into UAFS and more. He’s a member of Greek Life, one of the first faces new students meet, and has helped grow the Black Student Alliance into a thriving student organization.
At UAFS, he said everyone has a voice and it is a place where everyone has a sense of belonging. UAFS is also a place where every student is supported.
“I have mentors who I can always go to if I ever need to who will always be in my corner, even after graduation,” Jayden said. “They’ve reassured me when I was doing good, but also knew how to give constructive criticism which is always needed to progress. I’m very grateful for that.”
