Update 1:37 p.m. -- I am grateful to share that law enforcement has completed a thorough search of the entire UAFS campus, and the all clear has been given.

The bomb squad and bomb-detection K-9 teams have completed their sweep, and we are incredibly thankful to report that nothing was found and there is no threat to our campus.

Campus will remain closed for the duration of the day, and we urge you to stay home for the rest of the day.

Individuals at the Stubblefield Center who need to retrieve personal items should follow the instructions of law enforcement officials on site, who will assist in reopening buildings.

If you left campus, you may return to retrieve your items.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to the University Police Department and the many law enforcement and emergency response agencies that assisted us today. Their professionalism and diligence are truly remarkable.

I am equally grateful to each of you for evacuating quickly and orderly, following the directions of emergency personnel, and looking out for one another.

Though I am glad that this was not a credible threat, I know this is not the way any of us wanted to end the first week of classes. An experience like this can be deeply unsettling, even after we know that everyone is safe. Please take care of yourselves in the days ahead.

If you need assistance or support: UAFS students have access to mental health care through the UAFS Counseling Center, located in room 214 of the Flanders Building, by calling at 479-788-7752. For after-hours emergencies, the Counseling Center offers a 24-hour hotline at 800-542-1031, as well as an after-hours non-crisis Warmline, which is answered locally at 479-452-6655

UAFS faculty and staff, even those not enrolled in the university's benefits programs, may access support through our   or by calling 1-877-660-3806, TTY 711, for personal and confidential mental health care

I want to close by assuring you that our university emergency management team will conduct a thorough after-action review, carefully evaluating today’s response and identifying opportunities to strengthen our emergency procedures.

Update: 12:07 p.m. -- The UAFS main campus will remain closed for today, Friday, August 21. Deadlines that were set for today, such as payment and registration deadlines, will be moved to Tuesday. We will not have a drop for nonpayment today.

Students living on campus may leave campus, but those who choose to remain on campus should continue to shelter in place until we can provide an all clear.

Anyone who leaves campus must remain off campus until we have provided an “all-clear” to return.

We will not be able to provide dining service on campus today in either the Lion’s Den Dining Hall nor in the Campus Center. If we are able to provide meals of any kind, we will notify students via email.

Law enforcement is working diligently to sweep campus facilities. We have not received any other threats at this time, and there have not been any injuries.

If you left personal items on campus and need to return, we will let you know when it is safe to do so.

We are continuing normal operations at Peak Innovation Center and the Bakery District Center for Economic Development.

We have established a unified command post with law enforcement units from across the region, who quickly and expertly unified to take action on our campus and keep us safe.

We are incredibly grateful for their expertise and immediate response.

Thank you to everyone for quickly evacuating and following instructions.

We will provide updates as soon as possible. We expect to provide another update by 2 p.m., if not sooner.

Update: 10:42 a.m. -- UAFS police and administration are working closely with local law-enforcement agencies to ensure safety of our campus. We will prepare an update to be sent no later than noon today.

Until that time, please take any necessary precaution to ensure your own personal safety. We will keep the campus closed for the remainder of the day. All campus activities scheduled on the main campus for today, including classes and labs, are cancelled.

Update: 10:08 a.m. -- Evacuation is due to a bomb threat. The threat has not been deemed credible but UAFS treats all threats as credible. All classes on the main campus are cancelled for Friday, August 21, 2026.

Alert: 9:23 a.m. -- Campus evacuation is taking place immediately due to a bomb threat (not deemed to be credible yet). Please clear all areas. Campus housing residents should shelter in place in their apartments and residence halls.
Do NOT return to your offices or classrooms to retrieve personal items.
