“UAFS is somewhere you can thrive!” senior media communications student, Alyvia Jean Scroggins said. “I have changed so much since coming to UAFS. In the last three years, I have been challenged in ways that I would never imagined and have grown to become truly myself.”

She's been immersed in hands-on learning in her media courses, served as sorority president for the University of Ï㽶ÊÓƵAPP – Fort Smith chapter of Delta Gamma, and worked alongside the admissions team as an ambassador who welcomes prospective students to campus.

“I have had so many unique opportunities being a student at UAFS. I have gained countless mentors who have helped me and will continue to help me after graduation,” she said. “I know that when I graduate, I will have so many resources and opportunities thanks to my connections and experiences at UAFS.”

Alyvia came to UAFS from the small town of Berryville, so finding a community that could help her achieve her goals while creating a sense of home away from home was important.

“I was so nervous to leave everything and everyone I knew and start somewhere completely new,” Alyvia admitted. “I worried about having a community like I grew up with, when in reality, that was the easiest part of my UAFS experience. The most meaningful part of my experience has been the easiest: finding my people! They are so precious to me!”

Alyvia said she is lucky to have made countless connections with faculty, staff, and students at UAFS. Each one has helped her grow the confidence and leadership skills she will carry for the rest of her life. She said it’s things like that which make UAFS different from anywhere else.

“UAFS has such a unique campus culture,” she said. “There is a community on campus that makes it feel like home. The connections and opportunities you experience are so unique to UAFS.”
