AAPI Fest Brings Culture to Campus
Written By: Rachel Putman
The 㽶ƵAPP will host its annual Asian American and Pacific Islander Festival from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 25 in the Campus Center Reynolds Room, bringing together campus and area student organizations for an evening of food, performances, and cultural celebration.
The event is free and open to the community.
This year’s festival will include the Vietnamese Student Association, K-pop Appreciation and Dance, the Filipino Student Association, Japan Club and Mahjong Club. The Asian Culture Club from Southside High School and students from Van Buren High School will also participate in the event.
UAFS student Alyssa Voradeth said the festival gives students and community members a chance to gather around shared learning and culture.
“Celebrating AAPI culture is to recognize and honor the contributions of AAPI individuals that helped shape who we are today,” Alyssa said. “It fosters unity, promoting a more inclusive, empathetic society, and combats challenges and discrimination within us.”
The participation of high school students adds another layer to this year’s event, connecting UAFS student organizations with younger students from the region.
“It’s exciting to see high school students come and participate because it creates a safe space that promotes pride and understanding about their community, as well as to educate not only themselves, but their peers,” Alyssa said.
